Twist, if imagined as a human being, would be a tanned and horny 22-year-old man, carefully unbuttoning his shirt to show you the finest South Beach has to offer. While clubs like Salvation have come and gone, Twist is still the spot to finish the night for any homosexual male in town. This is a must-see with two levels and seven bars—you can bar-hop without ever leaving the premises. And the many drink deals make the nights fly by! Don’t miss the go-go lads at the rear Bungalow Bar, whose dark complexion and massive pecs will amaze even the most uptight of your gurls. There’s no real dress code, but there is a night for every type, from Sabroso Thursdays with Sazon Latino to Pusilla’s Underwear Contest—which, if you’ve got what it takes, will score you a $100 bar tab. As they say at Twist: ”Never a cover, always a groove!”

TWIST was founded in 1993 by Richard Trainor as a friendly and welcoming environment where people from around the world could meet and have a great time. From its first day, appreciation of the customer and exceptional service have been central to TWIST’s concept. Professional bartenders, world-class DJs, and the absolute hottest dancers you’ll find anywhere make TWIST a ”must do” in South Beach.

TWIST’s motto is its mantra – Never a Cover – Always a Groove means just that. TWIST never charges a cover while offering two levels of entertainment indoors and out, three dance floors, and the absolute best time you’ll have on South Beach. But, it truly is their loyal locals and international tourists that make TWIST unique and always happening. Without them, TWIST would not have received awards as the best gay bar in South Florida, year after year for the last quarter century.

If these walls could talk, they’d tell you that becoming Miami’s number one LGBTQ+ bar and restaurant was no easy task. But, after three decades of spectacular parties, including South Beach’s righteous heyday as a homosexual hotspot in the 1990s, the Palace was doomed to become a legend. After all, “Every Queen Needs a Palace,” and they’ve been home to South Florida’s most spectacular entertainers and drag queens since 1988.

The Palace began catering to the city’s LGBT population in the 1990s. The neighborhood had claimed the 12th Street Beach across the street as their own, and the party quickly spread, with Palace throwing T-dances in its parking lot. Designer Gianni Versace relocated to Ocean Drive, a block away from the Palace, around that time and became a regular visitor. He would often bring his celebrity buddies to dine. Stars such as Luciano Pavarotti, Elton John, Madonna, and Princess Diana were regularly seen, and Ocean Drive became a popular destination for fashion models, with fresh photoshoots and music videos being made on a daily basis.

In July of 2017, The Palace closed its doors at 1200 Ocean Drive after the building was sold to developer Steve Kassin’s Infinity Real Estate. He bought the building that houses The Palace as well as 31 residential units for over $15 million. At the time of the sale, an executive for Infinity said the company planned to “enhance the property, including improving the building’s prominence and accessibility.” Donall made it clear that instead of closing temporarily during the building’s renovations, the Palace would change locations permanently.

In November of 2017, after a short hiatus, Palace Bar reopened at its new location, 1052 Ocean Drive, and is once again home to glittering queens and drag performances, and every so often you’ll spot frequent celebs such as Nene Leakes, Andy Cohen, Ross Matthews, Gus Kenworthy, Perez Hilton, and Lisa Vanderpump dining with friends. Today, everyone is invited to experience the incomparable hospitality and entertainment of Miami Beach’s most inclusive bar and restaurant, three decades in the making!

Hotel Gaythering

Hotel Gaythering’s bar should be your first stop for the evening if you want gorgeous faces, a cool—but not overly hipster—vibe, and a mojito (and of course, being a hotel, you can stay the night). The name of this gay-friendly hotel, which bills itself as “straight-friendly,” says it all. The design is a mishmash of antique Americana and tropical ’50s elegance, with unique squat areas like a repurposed vintage dentist chair. It’s a haven from the chaos of South Beach, housed in a mid-century edifice off Lincoln Road.

The music and television are never too loud to have a discussion. The concierge service turns guests into “instant natives,” and there are no infants at this 21-and-up establishment. Check out Wednesday trivia night, ’90s Thursdays, a ‘happy’ hour when you can come in after work for dirt cheap drinks, and Bares & Hares, which accepts otters, wolves, pigs, and “even the Beavers,” according to the website. Above all, you may get a glass of dildo or buttplug—or even a bottle of lemonade—from the bar’s vending machine. Hotel Gaythering is one of the best gay clubs in Miami for a hot night out.

The Manor

When it comes to the LGBT scene, Wilton Manors, one of the most gay-friendly areas in the country, is worth a visit. When the sun goes down in Wilton, all restless people go to the Manor, the neighborhood’s largest and craziest club, complete with loud music, meaty dancers, and dazzling decor. Close by, New York Grilled Cheese is open until 3 a.m. on Thursdays and Sundays, and until 4 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. If carbohydrates are on the agenda this evening, this is an excellent post-club snack.

A megaclub, an event area, and an ultra-lounge are all part of the Manor Complex. The two-level nightclub is as elegant as it gets, with crystal chandeliers and a massive performance stage that has hosted RuPaul-approved performers like Bianca Del Rio. For those looking for a truly memorable night, there is cutting-edge sound and lighting equipment as well as an opulent VIP space. Pre-gaming clubs that fit your specific preferences, such as Ramrod or Cubby Hole, are nearby.

When you factor in the large, packed dance floor, an evening spent at The Manor is sure to indulge all of your senses. The vibe at The Manor makes it feel like everyone is part of the evening’s show. The lights will keep you enthralled & the sound compelling. So each time you visit, it totally feels like a different experience because it is.

Nathan’s Bar

What better way to alleviate your post-quarantine social anxieties than a disco ball-strewn, TV-themed homosexual bar? Nathan’s, just minutes away from Twist (and in the same building as the short-lived WaterLOO LGBT pub), is a significantly more laid-back option. Nathan’s is long, thin, and charmingly quirky, with six-themed tiny table sections and limited outdoor seating. However, you and your pals will most likely spend the night rubbing shoulders with other hotties in the little space between the bar and the booths, which qualifies as a dancefloor in your eyes.

Nathan’s is a gay bar on Washington Avenue and 12th Street, one of the busiest strips on the beach, featuring decor based on vintage TV favorites with a twist, such as a big painting of the Pink Panther urging you to “send nudes.” Take a seat on a comfy couch and peruse their drink menu, which will be far more eclectic than the Friends cast portrait you’re sitting beneath. They have fun themes for almost every night of the week, like Pop Culture Mondays and Wednesday Sing-Alongs, and with well-priced beer deals and plenty of small appetizers, it’s an easy venue to spend the majority of the night at. Gramps Bar

Gramps is a hipster bar near Miami’s design district that occasionally features live music, comedy shows, and bingo nights. It’s also famous for its powerful air conditioning, happy hour specials, and occasional drag shows, but the bar will advertise those when they happen. Gramps is not exactly a homosexual bar, but it is vocal and unapologetically. The LGBT-friendly Wynwood Pub also hosts the greatest weekly drag party in town, Double Stubble. Every Thursday at 9 p.m., Miami’s drag scene comes alive with beautiful performances—and this isn’t your regular drag. Performances here are avant-garde, out-of-this-world displays of ingenuity and intensity.

The name says it all: air conditioning, beer, and drinks. In perennially hot Miami, what more could you want? Perhaps weekly karaoke or a rotating selection of local beers on tap? Don’t forget about the drinks (especially the Moscow mule). After a couple of those, go outside and have a piece of Pizza Tropical, Gramps’ own modest eatery. This Wynwood pub is famous for a reason, and it also features live comedy (Hannibal Buress and Eric Andre have swung by for surprise appearances) and lives music from rising musicians like Angel Olsen and Mitski. This is one of the best gay clubs in Miami for a hot night out.

Hunters Nightclub

Hunters, another famous Wilton Manors outing, carries on the heritage of its eponymous sister bar, which has been a fixture in the Palm Springs LGBT community for almost 20 years. The South Florida location has been operating since 2014, providing revelers with a contemporary, refurbished venue on Wilton Drive outfitted with a big dance floor, a massive video screen, and an upper lounge overlooking the action. Stop in on Fur Fridays for $2 house drinks and keep dancing until the spiked disco ball stops spinning.

Their mission statement is straightforward. Friendly and enjoyable. The Hunters’ legacy lives on “the road” in Wilton Manors, Florida, at the Shoppes of Wilton Manors. Hunters Nightclub Palm Springs has been located on Arenas Road in Palm Springs, California for the past 18 years.

The newly restored and redesigned venue has a big dance floor with the largest video screen on the road; a video bar with 8 screens for viewing your favorite films; and an upstairs lounge with a view of the dance floor. On the Hunters Stage, you’ll find first-rate DJs, the most advanced lighting system, stunning go-go dancers, monthly theme parties, and special guests. The Hunters believed it was critical to make a written pledge to their consumers. They released “Our Promise,” a first in their industry. Simply put, it is critical to them that you are delighted with their goods. This is one of the best gay clubs in Miami for a hot night out.

Prepare to be impressed when you enter the EDITION Miami Beach’s freshly remodeled lobby. But don’t get carried away. Turn left and down the steps until you reach Basement, the ultra-hip subterranean nightclub. Basement, while being just a few years old, has swiftly become one of Miami Beach’s trendiest clubs. And its success is due to one large, vivid factor: personality.

The majority of nightclubs feature a dance floor. A bowling alley is not uncommon in nightclubs. The Basement, on the other hand, is not like other nightclubs. Patrons enjoy the club’s four technicolor blowing lanes, which are a major draw. The lanes are open from Thursday through Saturday. While they roll, guests may enjoy beverages and music, and you can reserve your own lane on Basement’s website.

Basement’s DJs seldom fail to amaze. On weekends, you’ll hear a lot of hip-hop and open format, as well as some good ol’ Miami house music. The dance floor is large and generally packed with swaying, lovely folks. Big stars visit by on occasion. Carl Cox, Talib Kweli, and more artists have performed. This is one of the best gay clubs in Miami for a hot night out.

Club Aqua

Club Aqua isn’t so much a club—rather an old-school bathhouse. Does that make it any less fun? Hardly. Amenities like the dry sauna and heated pool are a bit dated but well kept, and the interior “fun rooms” are regularly sanitized. Read: You come here just clean enough to get dirty again. But at this secret Coral Way spot, you can also jam out on weekends and mingle with barely-dressed singles.

To begin with, Club Aqua is a traditional bathhouse. You come here to clean up just enough to become dirty again. On Friday evenings, though, you can groove out to DJ Just Oliver and check out some in-the-buff male dancers while also lying bare-assed at this hidden hideaway on Coral Way. This tiny venue, dubbed “an old choice made fresh,”. There’s a gym, a jacuzzi, a sauna, and even tropical gardens—if it has to do with water, this exclusive men’s club has it covered. There’s even a safe sex list on the website, so save it.

The newly refurbished Club Aqua is the old Miami Gay Sauna Body Center, which opened in 1972. The clothing-optional facility in a tropical garden setting has a gym, maze, steam, pool, jacuzzi, and sauna. Friday nights feature dancers with DJs. Membership or one-time passes allow entry to the adults-only club ($11 on weekdays, $14 on weekends, and holidays). Guests ages 18-24 only $5.
