Lesleen M Wreck

The first of the list of the best places for Scuba Diving in Saint Lucia cannot fail to mention the Lesleen M Wreck – a 165-foot cargo vessel deliberately drowned in 1986 by Saint Lucia’s Fisheries Department The goal was to build an artificial reef, and the wreck can now be seen off the coast of Anse Cochon on Saint Lucia’s west coast. Anse Cochon is located to the south of Marigot Bay and has a maximum depth of 65 feet. Because it has a largely open and accessible cargo hold, this artificial reef is both intriguing and adventurous to dive.

The Lesleen M Wreck is a beautiful dive location that is particularly great for diving photography. A magnificent Spectacle is approaching the Lesleen M Wreck from a distance. The wreck will be upright on its keel, with its 13-meter pilothouse and open cargo space accessible for exploration. You may dive around the deck to get a better look at the gorgeous coral that has grown on this artificial reef. There will be enormous groups of angelfish and several schools of various types of snapper. There may also be a lot of barracuda and tiny schools of tuna. The Lesleen M Wreck is a safe haven for marine life.

The Lesleen M Wreck is not the largest artificial coral reef in the world. However, the amount of unique species and brilliant coral that has developed on the structure makes for an exciting diving experience.

Daini Koyomaru Wreck

The Daini Koyomaru was a sunk Japanese dredger in 1996. It washed up on the water floor and now acts as an artificial reef. The wreck is approximately 244 feet long and is mostly intact. The wreck is roughly 108 feet deep. Most of the interior was deliberately left intact, offering an endless source of exploration for advanced divers.

The railings and steelwork are already adorned with soft corals. Already, the wreck is home to a variety of fish species: French angelfish, moray eels, and barracuda are common. Not as attractive as the Lesleen M, and with significantly less coral development. It lacks the traditional V-shaped hull of a dredger. Penetration is possible but not advised.

The ship went down in close proximity to an existing reef patch. Because the vessel crashed on its side, a wall dive was developed in addition to the wreck dive. It has been noted that the structure’s location provides it with a mysterious atmosphere. The Daini Koyomuru (Japanese for “boat #2”) is a mouthful, yet the location provides a tough challenge for experienced divers.

Anse Chastanet

Anse Chastenet is the easiest spot to get to and the most beautiful site to see. The reef here is 15 ft at the shallow end, extending to around 60 ft which makes it ideal for beginners. Trumpetfish and turtles are typical encounters in the Anse Chastanet dive location on Saint Lucia’s west coast. This region is frequently suggested to divers since it is considered one of the greatest sites for scuba diving in Saint Lucia. Dolphin families can regularly be spotted swimming close by.

Once a week, the resort’s double-decker motor catamaran Miss Babsie takes guests on a ” Jazzy Champagne Sunset Cruise “, complete with live music by one of St. Lucia’s top guitarists. Many visitors dance into the sunset on the top deck during this colorful celebration. Zip Lining is a new and popular activity on the east side of the island, available by a combination of the water taxi and land taxi and well worth the time spent getting there on the Miss Babsie or one of the smaller motorboats.

Those who are physically healthy and energetic may like to try one of the Rainforest Hikes or perhaps climb Gros Piton itself. No travel to St. Lucia is complete without seeing the island’s famed walk-in volcano, the Sulphur Springs, and the waterfall and floral gardens that are part of the Louis XVI Mineral Baths. Bring your swimming suit and relax in the little pools of hot spring water. There are other excursions available, such as deep-sea fishing, whale watching, horseback riding, island tours, trips to Marigot Bay, the island capital of Castries, and tours to the north of the island, which include a visit to Rodney Bay and Pigeon Island National Park. The 18-hole Cap Estate Golf & Country Club allows non-members and is similarly located in the island’s far north. To reach there, the resort may organize a water-land taxi combo.

Pigeon Island

Pigeon Island offers a leisurely dive that starts at 15 ft and progresses to a maximum depth of 60 ft. Pigeon island national park is made up of two islands: giant pigeon island and little pigeon island. The beach is unquestionably the nicest part of any island, and Pigeon Island National Park is no exception. The plot’s twist is the coral reef, which is 200m long and 100m wide. As a result, the abundance of water life may be seen from the shore. A rocky islet surrounds the little pigeon island’s coral-rich ecosystem. Over 300 species of coral reef fish reproduce and graze on the rocky outcrops and islands, keeping the vibrant underwater symphony alive. You can relax as you would on any other beach, just be sure to wear your slippers at all times. Coral cuts are popular here.

Pigeon Island is a snorkeler’s paradise. The clean water makes snorkeling easy and safe from 1 ft to 6-7 ft. Underwater life includes Trumper fish, angelfish, parrotfish, els, coral gardens, and other colorful creatures. There is also a good probability of spotting large sea turtles and maybe blacktip sharks. You must hire a boat and snorkeling equipment, but this is a tiny price to pay for the pleasure. Because there are a few restricted sections, it is advised that you get a guide when booking the boat excursion. If snorkeling isn’t exciting enough for you, the Pigeon Island resort also offers deep-sea dives. The resort offers several programs for children’s safe dives. Deep and night dives with underwater photography are available with a trained diver.

If snorkeling is not your thing, the speedboat ride is worth the trip in and of itself. You may swim on the other side of the island or go fishing in the sea. Windsurfing is another secondary activity available at Pigeon Island Beach, but you must be lucky with the waves.

Fairyland

Fairyland is located just off the rugged cliff face known as West Pointe south of Anse Chastanet beach and reef. As the names indicate, this diving spot is right out of a storybook. The brightness of the coral and sponges here is what makes this region stand out the most, and it is thus a favorite site for underwater photography. The currents may be strong here, which has been ascribed to how clean the natural elements have stayed over time. The surface progressively slopes from 40 to 200 feet, and on this dive, you are very likely to see turtles, which are typically nice enough!

The seas of St Lucia provide some of the most beautiful diving locations in the Caribbean. You don’t have to take our word for it; simply ask seasoned divers who have traversed the world to enjoy their pastime. Better yet, take to the water and immerse yourself in a world of vibrant hues and teeming aquatic life. Given the enormous number of popular dive locations on St Lucia, it’s not surprising that there isn’t a general agreement on which is the most beautiful. If you poll local dive operators, instructors, and amateur enthusiasts, Fairyland is sure to come out on top.

Fairyland is also well-known for its plentiful fish populations. When the shoreline reaches a point, currents from the north and south combine and move seaward, resulting in clear water and a concentration of nutrients to kickstart a robust food chain. As a result, the schools and individual fish are larger than in most other locations.

Virgin’s Cove

Virgin’s Cove is named after a shipwreck that killed a group of nuns at Anse La Raye. Today, a cross constructed right above this dive spot commemorates their death. The greatest depth is around 70 feet, and divers may view brain coral, barrel sponges, and the odd stingray.

Many big barrel sponges, gorgonian sea fans, brain coral, and other hard and soft coral species may be found in the waters of Virgin’s Cove. Moray eels, sea crabs, and many types of snapper are among the aquatic species found at Virgin’s Cove. Cleaner shrimp and scorpionfish can be found in large numbers in the shallowest areas. Turtles, Atlantic spadefish, and occasionally stingrays and barracudas may be found here. This reef is distinctively formed like a figure “9,” and it is diversified, becoming more defined as you dive deeper.

Virgin’s Cove is quite near to Anse Cochon beach and is another excellent snorkeling location in St. Lucia. Because Virgin’s Cove can only be reached by boat, you may need to hire a water taxi or organize a snorkeling excursion if you wish to snorkel there. Although Virgin’s Cove is one of the less popular snorkeling spots in St. Lucia, it offers a totally different but equally fantastic experience than other snorkeling spots.

Le Trou Diable (Devil’s Hole)

Don’t be fooled by the name: Le Trou Diable (also known as Devil’s Hole) is very easy for beginning divers to explore, similar to Fairyland at Soufrière. A fairly easy dive with a flat coral reef at about 40ft/12M, however, the maximum depth is more than 100ft/30M. The dive includes Finger Coral, Brain Coral, Barrel Sponges, the usual tropical fish, and on a good day, up to three turtles. A fantastic second dive lasting around an hour. Under the waves, there is a plethora of coral, a rainbow of fish, including grunts and Chromis, and the odd turtle. This reef is said to be one of the healthiest on the island. There are submerged and semi-submerged caverns in the cliff face, but there are also several enormous rock formations stretching out from the cliff face that are full of canyons and overhangs that have supported schools of blue tang and a little hawksbill turtle.

There have been unsubstantiated allegations that Le Trou de David had completely fallen owing to flooding; nevertheless, when zoomed in on a satellite map, one can observe that so far no harm has been done to the stunning site. Definitely a combination of paradise and reality that may be deadly when the water is stormy, and initially mislabeled as something from Hell.

Piton Wall

Piton Wall, located at the foot of the volcanic (and incredibly picturesque) Petit Piton, is accessible to divers of all abilities. The wall is accessible by boat, and there are several underwater critters to keep the mind occupied. Consider it an underwater adventure, with stunning vistas from both above and below the water’s surface).

The region has long been a natural habitat for a lengthy stretch of coral reefs, which make up around 60% of its maritime area. It also supports around 160 species of finfish, as well as numerous mollusks, sponges, echinoderms, annelid worms, cnidarians, and arthropods. Many bird species, indigenous rodents, bats, reptiles, and amphibians can also be seen. The region is rich in biodiversity and receives a lot of rain. It features woods with unique species of trees, shrubs, and herbs, making it even more remarkable for those interested in botany.

Being a United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Natural World Heritage Site, The Piton attracts substantial numbers of tourists every year from all around the world. These visitors come to take in and immerse themselves in the natural splendor of the area. Hiking, snorkeling, fishing, boat rides, and other activities are popular among visitors to the region. Many people choose to simply stare at and absorb the natural beauty of the volcanic cones while eating local food. There are lots of resorts and restaurants to cater to tourists.

Coral Gardens

The Coral Gardens can only be reached by boat, and the ride itself is intriguing. It lies in the Soufriere neighborhood, near the beautiful Pitons (a World Heritage Site in Saint Lucia). Even more, awe awaits you as you dive down to Coral Gardens, which is located at the base of the 2438-foot-high Gros Piton. This is a genuinely humbling experience, and under the waves, you’ll swim with tropical fishes of all kinds, five-finger corals, sargassum triggerfish, and, in deeper locations, barracuda. This dive spot has a lot of young fish and starts at a depth of 15 feet and goes down to roughly 90 feet.

Many previous visitors praised the Coral Gardens as a “must-see.” One recent visitor suggested snorkeling with the group rather than swimming out on your own. Sharks and stingrays are not often hostile, although they can become so at times, particularly when confronted with a lone snorkeler.

Superman’s Flight

The final spot in the best places for Scuba Diving in Saint Lucia is Superman’s Flight. With a name like this, you can expect this dive to be a little more thrilling than others. Superman’s Flight is a famous scuba diving spot beneath the sheer west face of Petit Piton, featuring currents that give divers the illusion of soaring through the water.

The diving location itself provides much more than just the thrill of flight. A wide range of reef formations, including plate coral, brain coral, soft coral, and sea fans, are among the 20 species that provide a splash of color to the scene. Superman’s Flight is also home to over 150 different types of fish. Most are brightly colored and seen in vast numbers, some in schools of approximately 1,000 students. The Creole Wrasse, which is purple-blue with yellow markings, is well-known for its abundance in the area. The geography also favors Pufferfish and Lobster, which are frequently seen in huge quantities.

Dive operators employ a drift dive pattern when diving Superman’s Flight for the enjoyment and convenience of their clients. Once the divers are in the water, the boat follows them as they drift south with the current, providing a somewhat calm experience. There are two ways to plunge into Superman’s Flight. Divers can plunge to a depth of 40 to 60 feet and stay there for the duration of the dive. For those who want a deeper dive, operators will first take divers down to 100 feet and then rise in stages to 70, 50, and 30 feet in line with the diving table criteria. The flying sensation is provided by the prevailing currents in either case. Because of the local geography, the currents at Superman’s Flight are stronger than those at most other dive locations. At the westernmost tip of Petit Piton, there is a convergence of long-shore currents and deep ocean patterns.
