High Tatras

Banska Stiavnica

Bardejov

Bardejov is the next name on the list today. With a wonderful historic center to explore, the well-preserved medieval town of Bardejov is definitely worth a visit if you have the opportunity; it is difficult to imagine a more picturesque location. The small town’s life revolves around its lovely marketplace, much as it did decades ago. The magnificent Church of St. Aegidius, which is at its core, is surrounded by a number of fine Gothic and Renaissance buildings.

You can also visit a beautiful historic synagogue and a small Jewish district, which is, unfortunately, all that remains of the town’s once-thriving Jewish community. The town is encircled by some beautiful 14th and 15th-century defenses, with several fascinating wooden churches dispersed across the surrounding area. It is located in the northeastern part of the country, with the Beskyd Mountains all around it.

Vlkolinec

Vlkolnec is one of Central Europe’s few remaining folk villages, with typical log cottages close to a stunning Baroque chapel and an ancient old bell tower. The tiny village is nestled in an exquisite setting amidst forest-clad hills and farms, with mountains visible in the distance, making it a really quaint and charming destination to visit. Since 1993, Vlkolnec has been a UNESCO World Heritage site, and it is one of ten Slovak villages that have been designated as folk architecture reserves. The village was given this status because it is a unique and intricate example of folk countryside architecture in the Northern Carpathians.

As a result, there are numerous excellent hikes in the surrounding area. Apart from that, there is not much to do except relax and enjoy the peaceful, laid-back atmosphere while admiring the fine folk architecture.
