Black Sand Beach

The Black Sand Beach in Iceland, located on Iceland’s south coast, is well-known for its black sand beach. Which derives its color from volcanic ash. It’s reasonable to say that when you’re visiting Iceland’s Black Sand Beach, you feel like you’re on another planet. Iceland’s Black Sand Beach is bordered by jagged basalt columns. Due to volcanic ash combined with the sand, many Icelandic beaches have black, golden, and even crimson sand beaches.

This is also one of the numerous reasons why people from all over the world rush to Iceland’s beaches every year. However, if you do intend on visiting the Black Sand Beach in Iceland, make sure to check the weather and bring supplies such as warm waterproof clothes, food, a phone, a tent, extra blankets, flashlights, and don’t forget to bring your camera.

The weather in Iceland may be highly unpredictable, especially during the winter, when the wind and waves are known to alter swiftly. As much as the grandeur of the landscape may entice and enchant you, make sure to stay safe and sound during your vacation.

Diamond Beach

Diamond Beach in Iceland is one of the most popular and visited beaches in Iceland. The Diamond Beach is an area of black sand on Iceland’s south coast that is part of the larger Breiamerkursandur glacial plain. It is located near the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. The stunning big pieces of ice that wash up on the beach’s coastline from the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon inspired the name. The best aspect is that these ice chunks resemble massive ice diamonds rocks. This is by far one of the most unique destinations on the planet, and where else can you witness a beach covered in ice diamonds?

Because the beach is close to the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, you can stop by there as well. This glacier, Breiamerkurjökull, is part of the Vatnajökull Glacier National Park, and some of the massive chunks of ice are over 1000 years old. Visiting this beach is like walking into a wonderful universe that awaits your exploration. If you’re lucky, you’ll see a few seals swimming in the ocean or sunbathing on the beach. So, make a point of visiting Diamond Beach in Iceland.

Nautholsvik Beach

Nautholsvik Beach is one of Iceland’s most popular sandy beaches, located in the capital city of Reykjavik. The most amazing aspect of this beach is that it is a thermal beach, meaning that it is heated by water that flows straight into the bay. Nauthólsvk Geothermal Beach is a wonderland for those who enjoy swimming in the sea or sunbathing on the golden beach. The beach has showers, steam baths, hot tubs as well as changing facilities. Hot water is piped into the man-made lagoon, creating a cool swimming area with temperatures ranging from 15° to 19° C in the summer. So, without hesitation, take a plunge in the pool because the water is warm enough to enjoy swimming and bathing.

This beach also features two freshwater pools and public services, making it ideal for families. Surfing, however, is not permitted on the beach for safety reasons. If you want to spend some time relaxing and bathing in the ocean, you should definitely come to Reykjavik and visit Nautholsvik Beach.

Solheimasandur Beach

Solheimasandur Beach is a large place of sand and gravel on Iceland’s South Coast, between the internal cliffs and the modern beach. It was formed by massive glacier bursts that swept from the slopes to the beach. Solheimasandur Beach is only ten minutes away from Iceland’s the Skogafoss Waterfalls.

The beach is also home to a plane disaster, therefore, it is definitely enough to attract you to explore. You may easily hike up to the plane wreck that lies on Iceland’s Black Sand Beach. Don’t worry, there is no tragic narrative behind this plane accident; everyone on-board survived, making this visit even more special. The plane disaster at Solheimasandur Beach is about 4 miles back and forth from the Ring Road. Wear appropriate footwear when visiting this beach, as you will be walking on rocky black sand on your way to the wreck. The DC-3 plane wreckage is one of the most striking sites on Sólheimasandur.

Stokksnes Beach

Stokksnes is a headland on Iceland’s southeastern coast, near Hofn and Hornafjördur. Stokksnes is located south of Kastarárfjall and includes Vestrahorn mountain, which was featured in the Bollywood film Dilwale. Stokksnes H-3 Radar Station is positioned at the tip of the headland. Stokksnes Beach is located on Iceland’s southeast coast. The nicest part about this beach is that it features a massive mountain hugging the sea and resting proudly on a black sand beach. The views here are literally to die for, and your first view of the beach and the proud mountain on the black sandy beach will leave you speechless. Pictures can not do express perfectly what this beach has to offer, it simply has wickedly amazing views. Dyrholaey Beach

Dyrholaey Beach is unlike any of Iceland’s other black sand beaches. It is one of Iceland’s most famous beaches, famed for its large ice rocks floating on the water’s surface. And they aren’t little rocks either. So don’t be surprised if you see massive ice blue blocks floating around, reflecting the colors of the sky and sun rays. The beach may be observed from two perspectives: from the higher ground looking down at the beach and from the lower part of the beach near the shoreline.

Dyrholaey Beach has many wonderful vistas from which to enjoy beautiful dawn or sunset. You may expect to obtain a birds-eye perspective at Dyrholaey Beach because you are at a high altitude. The natural arches etched into the rocks that tower tall in the sea will certainly catch your eye.

Dyrholaey Beach is closed from May 1st to May 12th, with limited access until the middle of June. During nesting season, only the lower half of the beach is accessible by automobile, while the upper path is only accessible by foot. So, before you go to Dyrholaey Beach, bear all of these considerations in mind. During the summer, you can also see puffins and the famed Arctic terns, which nest here.
