Nizam Sikandar Jah Asaf Jah III Shoes
Nizam Sikandar Jah, a king of Hyderabad in India from 1803 to 1829, was born in 1768 and reigned from 1768 to 1829. He was Asaf Jah’s second son and grew up in Chow Mahalla in the Khilwath Palace. He married Nawab Saif’s daughter, Jahan Parwar Begum Sahiba, and then Fazilath Unisa Begum.
During his reign, he had a pair of diamond and ruby-encrusted slippers made for him. The shoes have a delicate pattern that was difficult to create. The shoes are stitched with gold thread and studded with emeralds and other valuable gemstones.
The shoes are owned by the Bata Shoes Museum in Toronto and are valued at $160,000. The shoes were stolen as a symbol of 18th-century royalty but were eventually found with minor damage.
